Week 4: Paper Lanterns
This photo of paper lanterns was taken while dining at a sushi restaurant. For some reason the photo came out darker than it actually was in the restaurant. I love the look of paper lanterns and was actually really excited that I could use this photo for my blog entry! I think it would make a really cool lighting tool and prop for a dance piece. Paper lanterns make dim light and create a warm intimate space for the viewer. Paper lanterns are also something that are not seen everyday so if they were used onstage they would immediately transport the audience to another part of the world.

I completely understand what you mean about the warm light paper lanterns give, but I find it so interesting that in this image the lanterns look old and decrepit giving a sense of aging. They look like lights that are striving to be young and new again, shining their bright light out through their battered and worn casings!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Alex - these fixtures have a sense of nostalgia and decay to them that seem to tell a beautiful haunting and elegant story
ReplyDeleteNice image!
I concur with Lonnie and Alex about it being decrepit and having a sense of aging. I think the warmth comes from the light and the sense of age and aging. I love the visual and would also like to incorporate in a piece.
